For 2010, the Northside Leadership Conference awarded the Service Provider of the Year award to the Steel City Boxing Association. The 27th Annual Awards Dinner was held on June 10, 2010, where the team was honored to accept this prestigious award. As an even greater honor, the Pittsburgh City Council declared June 2010 Northside Leadership Conference and Awardees Month in the City of Pittsburgh. Special thanks to Darlene Harris and the Pittsburgh City Council members, as well as the Spring Hill Civic League for their nomination and continued support!

Battle of the Badges in Honor of Heroes Memorial Boxing Event

6:00 pm – Bagpipe and honor guard ceremony begins
7:00 pm – First match starts

The event will feature 10 amateur matches between Pittsburgh area firefighters vs. Allegheny County law enforcement officers.
The event will be hosted by Marty Griffin of NewsRadio KDKA 1020 and KDKA-TV.

This event is the inaugural event of the newly formed Firefighters Athletic Association League of PA, and is held in honor of the September 11th legal holiday National Firefighters Day. Proceeds from this event will benefit the athletic association, which is the state”s largest association of dedicated firefighters interested in on-going physical fitness and general healthy lifestyle practices.

The mission of the Firefighters Athletic League of PA is to promote the improved fitness level of firefighters throughout the Commonwealth by encouraging physical wellbeing and ability the healthy, friendly competitions and incentive programs.

Steel City Boxing is dedicated to improving the community through leadership and volunteer work. Two Northside gardens are the handy work of the SCBA: one at the top of Homer and another at the corner of Spring Garden and Vinial Streets. This year, the SCBA was honored to be nominated for and receive the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Community Greening Award. The award recognizes those who have made a difference by planting and maintaining quality green spaces that are open to the public.
